The black snowflakes come down from the green sky

looking for all the world to be solid pieces of ink blown

sideways by the wind that freezes in one place and the snowflakes

flow down as liquid

digging holes in the soft earth making the barns and houses

slide up the hills to cover the horses who scream and run backwards under the black mess.

Saving the world, I run out of my upside-down cave and through the stone wall

that lies sideways on the ground and grab my shovel with no handle and slowly

walk to the bottom of the hill and insert the drainpipe so the horses

slide through and pop out as bubbles to float to the top of the sky and away

to better and cleaner places.

Satisfied, I run my way home, put away my shovel jumping over the wall to

take my cozy nap in the fireplace.

Cleaning out the barn on a windy day that requires gloves and coat
Making it difficult to pick up dropped screws, nails and tacks.
So quiet but the wind outside rattling the large sliding doors
The smell of ghosts of horses that lived here before me
Climbing steep steps to scare Mrs. Mouse hiding in the bubble wrap
Pushing things aside that make memories flood down my throat
Good and bad slowing me down until the sun setting makes it hard
To see that I haven’t accomplished much except make a path through the dust.
